The health insurance companies cover the costs of examining women between the ages of 50 and 69 every two years. The women entitled to benefits are written to by a central office and invited to an examination. The women who do not want to wait to be invited in the initial phase can contact the central office for an earlier appointment (01803 62 66 66). For women before the age of 50 and after the age of 69, the cost of a mammography is only covered by the statutory health insurance if there is a suspicion (usually a palpable lump or unclear finding). Most private insurance companies pay for the medical check-up.
